Big Island Van Rentals(“we,” “us,” “our”) runs a van rental business on the Big Island of Hawai‘i. This page explains what information we collect when you visit www.bigislandvanrentals.com, call, text, or book a van — and what we do with it.
Plain English version: we collect as little as possible, we use it to run the business and improve the site, we don't sell it. If that's all you need to know, you're done.
What we collect
Information you give us directly
When you book a van, call, or email, we collect:
- Your name, phone number, and email address
- Trip dates, flight info, group size
- Driver's license details for the primary driver (required to rent)
- A credit card on file (processed by our booking provider, not stored by us)
Information collected automatically
When you browse the site we collect standard web analytics data via Google Analytics 4: pages visited, approximate location (country/region from IP, not precise), device + browser type, referring site, and how long you stayed. This is aggregated and anonymized before we see it.
We also use Google Ads conversion tracking and remarketing cookies to measure which ads lead to phone calls or bookings, and to occasionally show our ads to people who visited before. You can opt out of personalized Google ads anytime at adssettings.google.com.
Booking data (via FareHarbor)
Our reservations run through FareHarbor, a third-party booking platform. When you book, your information is submitted to FareHarbor and stored under their privacy policy: fareharbor.com/help/privacy. We only see the information needed to run your rental (name, dates, contact details, vehicle category).
How we use it
- To confirm your booking, deliver the van, and handle paperwork
- To text or email you about your trip, delays, or follow-ups
- To operate the business — invoicing, insurance, tax records
- To improve the site and understand which pages / ads actually help people
- To comply with Hawai‘i state law and federal regulations for rental vehicles
What we don't do
- We don't sell your information to anyone.
- We don't share it with brokers, affiliates, or data resellers.
- We only share with service providers that help us run the business (FareHarbor for booking, Google for analytics + ads, Stripe via FareHarbor for payments), and only the information they need.
Cookies
Cookies are small files that save preferences and help analytics tools track sessions. This site uses:
- Google Analytics cookies (
_ga,_ga_<id>) to measure visits - Google Ads cookies to attribute bookings and calls back to ad campaigns
- FareHarbor cookies on the booking pages to hold cart state
You can block or delete cookies via your browser settings. Blocking analytics cookies won't affect your ability to book.
Your rights
If you're a California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, or EU/UK resident, you have the right to: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, request correction of inaccuracies, request deletion (with exceptions for legal/tax record retention), and opt out of targeted advertising. To exercise any of these, email bigislandvanrentals@gmail.comand we'll respond within 30 days.
Children
The site is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has submitted information, email us and we'll delete it.
Third-party links
The site links out to weather, parks, tourism, and other third-party sites. We're not responsible for their privacy practices. Check their policies if you're curious.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes we'll update the Last updated date at the top and, for material changes, flag it on the homepage for at least a week.
